Our Values

Why Choose WildVida Expeditions

01.

10% for Conservation

Our mission is to promote sustainable travel while supporting on-the-ground conservation efforts. Therefore, we are proud to say that 10% of our profits go straight to the protection and restoration of critical cloud forest habitat.

02.

Ethical Wildlife Viewing

WildVida Expeditions is committed to upholding high ethical standards in our tourism practices. To limit our impact on the wildlife we view, we have a strict no playback and no handling policy.

03.

Immersive Experiences

Our flagship guiding style is a slower and more relaxed pace that allows us to be truly immersed in the ecosystems we visit. This approach increases our odds of having unforgettable wildlife encounters and fosters a deeper connection with nature.

Meet the Team

Co-Owner and Logistics

Liseth (Liz) Tapasco hails from the epiphyte-laden cloud forest of Colombia’s Western Andes where she grew up swimming pristine rivers and exploring all the intricacies of this mega-diverse hotspot. Here, she has worked alongside her family in conservation and sustainable tourism on the edge of Tatamá National Natural Park. Her family’s business, Montezuma Rainforest Reserve and Ecolodge, has been operating for 16 years and is considered by many to be the top birding destination in Colombia. Attuned to details, Liz is highly valued for her professionalism and logistical planning skills.

With her husband Joel Such, Liz founded WildVida Expeditions in 2024, with the vision to build a tour company that both minimizes negative impacts on the natural world, supports conservation efforts, and prioritizes the realization of transformative experiences in nature.

In her free time, Liz enjoys traveling and photographing the often-overlooked inhabitants of the cloud forest with a macro lens.

Co-Owner and Expedition Leader

Joel Such grew up in the ponderosa clad foothills of Colorado’s Front Range, where his intense passion for the avian world was sparked at a young age. Ever since, Joel has pursued birds with unwavering devotion and has dedicated his life to studying, protecting, and documenting the natural world, working on a wide variety of field projects and environmental education initiatives throughout the United States and Latin America.

With both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in conservation biology, Joel’s commitment to conservation extends to community-based, multicultural projects aimed at garnering support for wildlife and their habitats. Armed with a telephoto lens since age nine, Joel uses photography as an essential tool in his dual roles as a biologist and artist, helping to raise environmental awareness and advance conservation efforts.

For the past seven years, Joel has predominantly lived in Colombia’s Western Andes where he is currently engaged in protecting and reforesting critical cloud forest habitat, documenting the region’s cryptic wildlife with his camera, and leading nature tours that support on-the-ground conservation projects.
